Presented by Sidney Robinson, Professor Emeritus at U of I at Chicago, architect, author, and educator. He will speak on Goff and his relationship with Alfonso Iannelli -POSTPONED
Early in his career, Goff worked in Park Ridge with Alfonso Iannelli in 1934. He returned in the 1940s after his military service to design some of his unique residences in the Chicago area.
The Helen Unseth House in Park Ridge, with a triangular footprint and glass ashtray window details, is a city landmark.
Robinson, professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Chicago, an architect, author and lives in another Goff house, the Ruth Ford House in Aurora, designed while Goff and Iannelli taught art at her design school, the Chicago Academy of Arts.
Based on Quanset hut structures Goff had built during service in the Navy, it features a circular wall of bricks of coal.
Largely self-taught, Goff was a high school graduate, who also became an artist and musician, composing piano music mathematically. He later taught architecture in Oklahoma.
Robinson believes that Goff's imaginative use of materials and geometry places him in the company of American "organic" architects including Frank Lloyd Wright.
Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served.
