Bullying and Social Conflict: Prevention, Intervention, and Reconciliation, a free workshop.

The workshop is part of a spring series of programs organized by Maine Township’s MaineStay Youth & Family Services in response to a community survey which ranked bullying as a top issue. Offering a comprehensive approach to addressing bullying prevention, intervention, and reconciliation, the workshop will help parents, teachers, counselors and students gain the skills to manage social conflict, bullying, and cyber bullying. Drawing from the latest research, Goldman, the award-winning author of Bullied: What Every Parent, Teacher, and Kid Needs to Know About Ending the Cycle of Fear, will offer specific, practical tips to effectively manage bullying. Those who attend the workshop will leave with ideas they will be able to put to immediate use.

"We all have a role to play in ending bullying and are proud to bring this program to all Maine Township citizens," said Maine Township Supervisor Carol A. Teschky. "Many thanks to our staff at MaineStay for addressing one of the pressing human needs in our community."

Some topics to be touched on will be:
  • Internet safety and cyberbullying prevention
  • How to discern the difference between normal social conflict and true bullying
  • How to teach kids who are targets of bullying the three steps of asking for effective help
  • The dangers of victim-blaming, even for kids who are "provocative targets"
  • How to create a culture where adults do not engage in bullying
