A Chicago native, the young Valentin has selected a program of works by Haydn, Liszt, Barber, and Debussy. Ethan Valentin’s great-grandfather was a well-known composer, pianist, and teacher in Chicago. The instrument that Ethan plays belonged to his ancestors, and in tribute to his great-grandfather he will play Liszt’s Legend No. 2 "St. Francis Walking on the Waves", the elder’s favorite piece. The Park Ridge Civic Orchestra (PRCO) is known for its extensive student programs, and for giving tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships to high school students. In the last few years a new focus on performance opportunities for award winners has resulted in the public being able to enjoy these young talents.
Ethan attended Lane Tech High School and studied at the acclaimed Merit School of Music, both in Chicago. In February, 2014, he competed at the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra student scholarship auditions and won the scholarship endowed by the Thomas A. Kooyumjian Family Foundation.
Currently Mr. Valentin studies at Lawrence University with Professor Anthony Padilla.
A cookie and beverage reception sponsored by the Park Ridge Civic Orchestra follows the concert for all audience attending.
The concert is presented by the Park Ridge Public Library.
