DIXIELAND is scheduled for Monday, June 9, at 2 p.m.
Music enthusiast Bob Levi will discuss how phonograph recordings—and later radio—helped Dixieland Jazz to become popular. Discussing the roots of the genre which began in southern juke joints, he will talk about how the music style migrated to New Orleans dance halls as he highlights the artists who made it famous including the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver, Kid Ory, Bix Beiderbecke, and Louis Armstrong.
BIG BAND MEMORIES is scheduled for Friday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m.
Chicago band leader Steve Cooper will showcase the most popular performers and songs from the days of the Big Bands when he presents Big Band Memories, a one hour program of rare films and videotapes from the era. Several bands performing at unique Chicago locations—including the Eddie Howard Orchestra from the famous Aragon Ballroom introduced by Ronald Reagan—will be featured. Special rare footage of The Lawrence Welk Show not seen in 45 years is also part of the afternoon.
These programs are FREE, but reservations ARE required.
