Homeschool Adventures for Homeschool Families --- Wednesday, October 1, from 1-4 p.m. --- at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson Street. --- Cost is $3 per child, $2 per child with a member.
Homeschool families are invited to explore the history of downtown Des Plaines as the Des Plaines History Center launches its Homeschool Adventures program Wednesday, October 1, from 1-4 p.m.
Participants will meet at the History Center, 781 Pearson Street.
Cost is $3 per child, $2 per child with a member.
Sarah DePuy, intern at the History Center, will lead families through a walking tour that includes the original site of the Kinder House, a 1907 house museum. The group will learn what life was like in Des Plaines more than 100 years ago and discover why some of the town’s buildings seem out of place. After the travels, children will create a collage of historic downtown sites, such as the Des Plaines Theater, the Metra Train Station, and the First National Bank. "Spend some time outside and enjoy the fall weather as we discover what’s unique about the buildings in downtown Des Plaines," said DePuy. "You can learn a lot of interesting things about your hometown just by looking at the details and architecture of its historic sites."
Homeschool Adventures is sponsored by the Des Plaines History Center and the Kiwanis Club of Des Plaines.
The History Center gratefully acknowledges operating support from the City of Des Plaines, the Des Plaines Park District, its members, and other contributors.
