Mental Health Awareness Event - Healthier Park Ridge Coalition

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM

plaza in front of the Park Ridge Public Library
20 S. Prospect Avenue
Park Ridge, IL , 60068

On Monday, May 22, 2017 – in conjunction with National Mental Health Awareness Month – the Healthier Park Ridge Coalition is hosting a short event at NOON in the plaza in front of the Park Ridge Public Library, 20 S. Prospect Avenue.

In 2013, residents of Park Ridge revealed in a survey that they did not know how to access help for mental health issues, such as depression and anxiety, in their families. The survey indicated that the top services needed, but not received, were counseling support, support groups of coping with daily living and stress and also mental health services. Since then the Healthier Park Ridge Coalition is working to change all of that.

In May, 2016, Coalition members and Mayor Marty Maloney presented a newly developed the Park Ridge Mental Health Resource Guide brochure. The resource guide - which is available from clergy, the Library, Chamber of Commerce members,on the Park Ridge Police Department website (under the link "Mental Health Resource Guide") and at other locations throughout Park Ridge, is a vital resource, developed aver a 2013 community survey indicated that the main reason residents with mental health issues do not seek help is that they do not know where to turn. That 2013 professionally conducted survey of 7,000 Park Ridge households indicated that about 3,800 city households experience anxiety, depression or other mental health concerns.

The mission of the Healthier Park Ridge Coalition is "[T]o identify and evaluate currently unaddressed health and safety needs in the community and, in collaboration with local partnerships, help initiate programs to address them."
