Help support Avenues to Independence by attending the 9th Annual Spotlight on Wine on October 3 from 6-9 pm at the National Hellenic Museum in Chicago. $85 per person. Valet parking is available. Proceeds from the Spotlight on Wine will help expand Avenue's computer program and provide access to computers and training for our 75 residents; increasing their quality of life at home and at work.

The 22nd annual Niles/Park Ridge CROP Walk for Charity will take place Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 1:30 to 5:00 pm at the churches listed below. CROP stands for Communities Reaching Out to People. CROP Walks are community fundraising events organized by Church World Services. This annual pledge march against world hunger is a fundraiser for Church World Service and our own Maine Township Food Pantry.

Hundreds of pumpkins, gourds and other seasonal items will be on display and available for sale at the 10th annual Youth Pumpkin Patch from October 19-31 at Park Ridge Community Church, on the lawn at the corner of Prospect & Crescent Avenue in the heart of Park Ridge. Hours: weekdays 3:30-7pm, Saturday 9am-7pm, Sunday 11am-7pm. Also featuring live musical entertainment and showings of classic movies -- something for all ages!

If you have CLEAN, gently worn coats that your family is no longer using and would like to help someone in need from our community, please take them to any of the three police departments between October 11, 2013 and November 16, 2013 --- Park Ridge Police Department, Niles Police Department, and Des Plaines Police Department --- the departments are open 24 hours a day. Numbers will be given out beginning at 3:00 pm. DOORS OPEN AT 4:00 PM. Memberships to the Friends of the Library may be purchased at the door. Information on Memberships is available at the Library's Circulation Desk.------------ On SUNDAY, from Noon to 2:00 pm, all items will be half-price.
