**********************
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a Presidential Proclamation that set aside May 15th as National Peace Officer’s Memorial Day and the week of May 15 as National Police Week.

National Police Week recognizes the service and sacrifice of U.S. law enforcement personnel. National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

'A Service of Remembrance' is sponsored by the Park Ridge Police Department Chaplains.

In addition, during National Police Week, the Park Ridge Police Department encourages the display of blue ribbons on car antennas. These blue ribbons are a reminder of law enforcement personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice and honor those men and women who serve our community 24 hours a day, seven days a week year in and year out. Interested residents can stop by the station and pick a ribbon up although any strip of royal blue ribbon would demonstrate support.
