Dr. Peter Griffin, conductor and Sousa impersonator, and the Illinois Brass Band will present AN EVENING WITH SOUSA. The concert will feature the music of the original John Philip Sousa band. Musical pieces played by the famed John Philip Sousa band during their heyday of the late 19th and early 20th centuries will include overtures, instrumental and vocal solos, patriotic selections, music from the Sousa Suites, and, of course, the marches for which John Philip Sousa is famous. The concert will also feature works by Von Suppe, Grainger, Vaughan Williams, Clarke, Pryor, Strauss, and Puccini.
Mr. Mark Ponzo, cornetist; Mr. Joseph Beribak, xylophonist; and Miss Amy Keipert, vocalist, will be the featured soloists during this historic recreation of a Sousa era concert. Dr. Pete Griffin will conduct the band in the role of John Philip Sousa.
The Illinois Brass Band is a six-time national champion of the North American Brass Band Association and is in its 23rd year of performing.
