Public Works Winter Update

January 27, 2014 10:42 AM

The Chicagoland area is experiencing an extremely hard winter. The City of Park Ridge has had over 52 inches of snowfall, with the seasonal average being 39 inches. The City has begun to conserve its salt and, as a result, will only be salting arterial and collector streets in the beginning of a snow storm and again at the end. We will not be salting side streets. The City is attempting to purchase additional salt, but none is available at this time.

The City of Park Ridge has water main breaks and small leaks occurring daily throughout the community. The low temperatures make it difficult to repair these breaks as the ground is frozen solid and equipment freezes up. Please report any leaks to the Public Works Service Center at 847/318-5240. Repairs to larger leaks are being done first, with crews monitoring smaller leaks, scraping and salting the area as necessary.
Potholes are appearing after each freeze/thaw cycle. The City has crews patrolling the streets for potholes and are patching them as they are found. Please call the Public Works Service Center at 847/318-5240 to report any major potholes.
Commonwealth Edison encourages customers to notify them directly as soon as possible if they experience a power outage. Customers can text OUT to 26633 to report their outage and receive restoration information or they can call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON-1.
