Rainbow Hospice Announces Latest Public Art Project

If you’ve been noticing beautifully decorated doors popping up around town, you’re not imagining things. Doors Open, the 2014 public art project sponsored by Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care, recently debuted in Park Ridge and nearby communities as a way of raising funds and bringing attention to the crucial work performed by the organization.

The doors are decorated by local artists, who draw from nature, storytelling, and other sources to create their designs. While most are painted, some doors incorporate unusual elements such as  stained glass, or – in the case of one door displayed at Whole Foods in Park Ridge – corn kernels.

Each organization donated $1,000 to Rainbow Hospice to sponsor a door. The funds go primarily to Rainbow’s Good Mourning program, which provides bereavement support for children and families following the death of a loved one.

Doors are on display throughout the summer in Park Ridge, Mount Prospect, Des Plaines, and Prospect Heights. For a full list of locations, please visit http://rainbowhospice.org/doors/. Doors are also still available for sponsorship and decorating by contacting Rainbow Hospice at (847)685-9900.
