Take a Winter StoryWalk® at Hodges Park

December 16, 2015 03:27 PM
The Park Ridge Public Library installed its winter StoryWalk® (a fun, educational activity that places a children's story along a walking path in the community) in Hodges Park— just a two-minute walk from the Library. A winter classic, The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats, follows the adventures of a little boy in the city on a very snowy day.
According to goodreads.com," No book has captured the magic and sense of possibility of the first snowfall better than The Snowy Day. Universal in its appeal, the story has become a favorite of millions, as it reveals a child's wonder at a new world, and the hope of capturing and keeping that wonder forever."
"We are excited to partner with the Park Ridge Park District with our second StoryWalk® and look forward to continuing this innovative and delightful way for children and adults to enjoy reading and the outdoors at other locations in the future," says Children’s Services Manager Parry Rigney.
"To add to the fun, Dolcetti Patisserie & Café is offering a free mini hot chocolate to children who have completed the StoryWalk®, says Mary Mason, library assistant.  "All they have to do is to come to the Library to let us know that they took the StoryWalk and collect a coupon for each child in the group."
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library in an effort to encourage physical activity, early literacy, and family time together in nature.
The StoryWalk® was installed on November 26 and will remain on display through the end of February.
