The Park Ridge Public Library will be hosting two special programs in April designed to help residents learn more about managing their financial future. The programs are part of the more than 500 classes, seminars, and activities taking place around Chicago during the 14th annual Chicago Money Smart Week, held from April 18-25, 2015.

On Saturday, April 18, the Library will offer Paying for College at 2:00 p.m. Financial advisor John Wojciechowski will discuss questions to consider as you establish a college savings goal, as well as features and benefits of a 529 college savings plan.

On Tuesday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m., patrons are invited to Funding Your Paycheck in Retirement to learn how to create, manage, and apply an income plan in their later years.

Both programs are open to the public free of charge, but registration is required through the Reference Services Department or by clicking here.

Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign launched in 2002 by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Now active nationwide, the campaign works with public libraries, schools, businesses, and other organizations to promote better financial awareness for all age groups. Money Smart Week events include classes and information sessions on a variety of topics, including managing student debt, household budgeting, retirement, and more.

"The Library recognizes the importance of helping individuals and families achieve financial literacy," says Reference Services Manager Gretchen Kottkamp. "Money Smart Week gives us a great opportunity to highlight the many resources libraries offer, including classes."

Money Smart Week’s partners include the American Library Association, the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Financial Planning Association, and the United States Department of Agriculture.

For more information on financial programs and resources at the Park Ridge Public Library, please call the Reference Department at (847)720-3230.
