The Library Celebrates its Fourth StoryWalk® – Again at Wildwood Nature Center!

September 7, 2016 03:10 PM
This fall, families in Park Ridge can again participate in an interactive reading experience while enjoying the autumn weather and a beautiful nature walk. In partnership with the Park District, the Park Ridge Public Library installed its fourth StoryWalk®, the second at the Wildwood Nature Center in time to celebrate their 30th anniversary on August 27.
This StoryWalk® features The Wonderful Book by Leonid Gore. In this delightful story, a lost book, left deep in the woods, transforms into whatever the finder needs it to be. As different animals discover it, they believe it’s a "wonderful" thing for their own uses, like a table for mice, a cover for a weary fox and a hat for a silly bear. But it's not until a little boy comes along and knows exactly what it is: a wonderful book that all the animals gather around to share the truly wonderful story inside.
The Wonderful Book is an imaginative and original tale with all the elements of the best and most enduring children's book classics. "While appealing to children of all ages, this book is especially great for younger children who will delight in all the silly ways the forest animals use the book," says Childrens Services Library Assistant Mary Mason who coordinates the Storywalk®. "In less than two weeks more than 150 visitors have signed the guest book and left all sorts of positive comments," added Mason.
The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition (VBPC) and the Kellogg Hubbard Library in an effort to encourage physical activity, early literacy, and family time together in nature.
